Russell Group - The Cybermill

The brief

A key requirement of the new Russell Group website was that the site integrated with their IBCOS feed – a database of their machinery stock. This feed must be loaded onto the website (preferably at regular daily intervals), and then be searchable by visitors. In addition, the site also serves as a point of contact for the business’ various branches, and contain information on new machinery available for sale.

We decided to build the Russell Group website using the WordPress content management system. The feed from their product database is uploaded automatically each morning and populates the website without the staff needing to make any alterations. They also have full control over all the features, including text, images, sidebar content, menus, info boxes and more.

The design

We maintained the Russells branding throughout the site, choosing a complimenting green and blue colour scheme with grey for the background. The square grid style layout is designed to compliment the Russell Group font and also the nature of the business.

The slideshow galleries are animated with ‘jQuery’, which means the site is fully functional on mobile devices and is also quick to load.

The contact page

Russells have a number of different depots across the country. The contact page needed to show the information for the different places in an elegant way.

A dynamic Google map is used on the Contact section. The map displays the different locations of the various branches throughout Yorkshire and the north of England, the map automatically pans to each location on click of the relevant button to the left of the map.

The contact details below the map also change dynamically on click of the relevant location button so that the location pin shown on the map has the relevant contact details below.

Product listings

We dedicated a large amount of time to the product/machinery list portion of the site to ensure that it was easy to use and navigate.

A universal search function allows customers to look for any related keywords (e.g. ‘Tractors’, ‘New Holland’, ‘4wd’, or ‘4wd New Holland Tractor’), and a comprehensive equipment list refines the machines into appropriate sections.

Once a section is displayed you can also reorder the items by price and name.

In conclusion

We have revisited and adjusted the product listings section since the initial launch, this saw us add in additional paging options, convert the product information to be a pop up, and make several changes to the backend workings of the system.
