Medical Services Training

MST run in-house medical terminology training and non-clinical training courses for up to 15 delegates at a time and also set up open courses in various locations across the UK…

Medical Services Training

Medical Services Training required a new site for their customers with the ability to book medical training courses online. This needed to be simple and easy for the person booking to easily add delegates and either pay online, or enquire about future courses.

Their old site was in need of a fresh design, the back end functionality also had room for improvement. The old website had several booking forms in place for each individual course, the submissions of which were sent by email and then collated into a database manually, making it quite cumbersome to manage.

Clear, professional and uncluttered, but not clinical.

The brief was for a clear and professional site, easy to follow and uncluttered, using a colour scheme of blues and greys. The first design draft used shades of blue, but this was thought to be too clinical. As their branding and marketing material were not set in stone, we worked with MST to produce a more colourful design and brand that still met the brief of clear and professional.

MST’s logo was already designed, to bring it up to date and more inline with the modern and bright colour scheme it was flattened and converted into a single colour.

Choosing the right imagery

Throughout the site, we helped to select and purchased a large array of stock imagery suitable for the different areas of the site. Getting the feel of the images right was crucial to the site design and so a lot of thought was put into the selection of the images as well as advice and discussions with the client on the selection of these.

We also selected a suitable icon set for all the different course types, giving a unique visual feel to the pages, adding familiarity.

Testimonials - MST YorkMST had lots of good testimonials relevant to both individual courses and more general testimonials.

To show these off to best effect we produced a testimonials system that allows the administrators to place their testimonials against the appropriate courses as well as randomly displaying them on the home page.

The best way for us to produce this was as a WordPress plugin which creates a widget which is easy to drag and drop into any of the sidebars present on the site.

The database

A database of all the courses that MST ran, along with their locations was added to the system. From there it was easy for the site admins just to select a course, a venue, the dates, available places and costs in order to add it to the system.

Once this was done, the upcoming courses could be shown in many different places on the site – in sidebars, the course calendar, on the booking form and on the unique page for each course. Every time a course or location was shown it is linked to either the course page or form, making it very simple to make the required booking.

The booking page was constructed using Ajax and JavaScript so that it was only possible to book courses that were currently running. For example, if you selected a location from the menu in the form, you could only select the appropriate courses and vice-versa.
