Recently we launched a new website for Richard Fisher and Associates Dental Practice, based near York.
Brief
Richard approached the Cybermill to redesign and build a friendly and clean website for their dental practices. The site also needed to be updatable by the staff of the practices themselves; we therefore designed a WordPress site using a fully bespoke theme for the team.
Design & Features
The site takes its colour theme from the Richard Fisher logo, using shades of light blue and mint green. Richard was keen for the site to have a friendly and welcoming feel to it; therefore we used a handwritten style web font for the headings to help achieve this.
One of the main hurdles with the design of this site was to find a way of showing a lot of information, without overwhelming the viewer. We therefore took the decision to separate the information into different sections which would reveal or hide on a mouse click. To achieve this we used a ‘JQuery’ accordion. This can be seen in use on the ‘Why Choose Us’ page, making the page easier to follow for the viewer.

The ‘Meet the Team’ page uses one of our favourite jQuery sliders, ‘Anything Slider’. The slider has many capabilities; it has been used here quite simply, to allow the viewer to meet the staff of Richard Fisher and Associates scrolling from left to right or vice versa.

The photography and imagery on the site comes from various sources. Some were supplied by the client and others were sourced from online image libraries. We used Stock Exchange www.sxu.hu and Shutter Stock http://www.shutterstock.com/ to provide the images for Richard’s site.
Stock Exchange is a brilliant online image library which offers free for use images (you will need to check the license information and any restrictions before use). Shutter Stock is an online image library that provides images for commercial use at a reasonable cost per image (around £30 for 5 hi-res images). Other online libraries are available – e.g. http://www.istockphoto.com , http://www.corbisimages.com or http://www.dreamstime.com. They are a useful resource for websites like Richard Fisher Dental that need specific imagery. They are also useful for generic images.
